We are a grassroots 501(c)(3) Not-For-Profit Organization that empowers individuals to create transformation in themselves and within their communities through the power of yoga.

The majority of our students and teachers are between the ages of 16 and 30, and come from impoverished backgrounds in Nairobi, Kenya. Most live on less than $2 a day, and have been personally affected by the HIV/AIDS crisis in Africa. Many have lived in Kenya’s informal settlements or internal displacement camps.

We offer free classes to over 4,000 students per week, simultaneously building schools and funding education, health services, and environmental endeavors. Weekly classes are held in community centers, prisons, and schools throughout Nairobi and in the Masai village of Amboseli.

Africa Yoga Project programs also provide communication skill building, job training, food stipends, and temporary housing. Despite continuous exposure to poverty, illness, crime, and drug use, the AYP organization is inspired to witness its students’ and teachers’ dedication to improving their lives and contributing to the wellbeing of their communities.
